The Catholics living in Wotten Waven used to gather at the Government Primary School for Mass on Sundays. Some still remember Father Felix Boghaert arriving on his motorcycle for the Sunday liturgy. When the school was destroyed by Hurricane David in 1979, Mass was celebrated in the house of Mr. Ivor Rolle.
Many of the Redemptorist Fathers who were stationed at the Cathedral conducted services at Wotten Waven. Among them were Fathers Gelaude, Werner, Francis, Mickelbrink, and Charles Vermeulen. It was under the direction of Father Charles, as Dean of the Cathedral, that the new little chapel was built by Mr. Pacquette, a builder from Canefield, and named the “Chapel of Christ the King.” Because this feast is now celebrated on a Vicariate or Diocesan level, it is usually celebrated in Wotten Waven a week before the actual feast day.
One of the main caretakers of the Chapel is Helen Sergeant who has served the Church for many years. Angela Charles and Clement Pierre-Louis are the animators at present and the choir is composed of the entire small congregation.
The Catholic community at Wotten Waven is now served by Rev. Fr. Nigel Karam, Rev. Msgr. Eustace Thomas, Rev. Fr. Calistus St. Louis and Deacon Rev. Mr. Jeffers Paul, and lay ministers of the Cathedral Parish.
